Kaddish & Yahrzeit
Kaddish is a bond which unites the Jewish generations from time immemorial, and unto eternity. Kaddish is the way we show our respect for our parents and the way they showed their love and respect for their parents. Click here to learn more about Kaddish & Yahrzit.
Kaddish is traditionally said daily for 11 months after a parent's passing, then again on each anniversary, the Yahrtzeit. It is recited on these days as part of the morning, afternoon and evening congregational prayers. Yahrtzeit (lit., anniversary in the Yiddish language) is the anniversary of the Jewish-calendar date during which someone passed away. Children honor their parents memory and observe their parents Yahrtzeit by reciting the kaddish prayer in the synagogue (with a minyan), giving extra charity, and studying Torah. If one is in proximity to a loved one's resting place, it is customary to go there (besides on Shabbat or holidays) and recite prayers.
Chabad of Malibu conducts services on Shabbat, Monday and Thursday. Be sure to email the office well in advance, so minyan arrangements are made. Click here to determine the next time you have Yahrzeit.
There are times when there is no surviving male to recite the mourner's Kaddish for the traditional eleven months after a parent's parting, and on each Yahrtzeit thereafter.
Perhaps you have a loved one whom you would want memorialized in annual Kaddish or Yahrtzeit remembrance. Or even for yourself-after 120 years- to have Kaddish recited for the zechus and merit of your soul in the generations to come.
Chabad of Malibu offers the following Kaddish and Yahrtzeit plans.
